Year Anniversary of Miramar Energy Project
5 Jun 2013
The commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will discuss the importance of the Miramar Energy Project, a joint venture between the air station, the City of San Diego, and Fortistar LLC, at the Miramar Landfill Friday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m.

The project converts methane gas from landfill waste into renewable energy that is used to power the air station. This renewable energy has reduced the air station’s energy pull from the San Diego grid by 45% and moved the air station one step closer to energy security and independence.

In light of the massive blackout that hit San Diego in the fall of 2011, crippling the community, this project will allow the air station to remain functional as a crisis response center that can provide assistance to the local community. In addition to being a significant achievement in the use of renewable energy for San Diego and the Marine Corps, the project helps preserve the area’s environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Media interested in attending must RSVP with the Miramar Public Affairs Office at miramarmedia@usmc.mil, or after hours at (858) 864-3406 by noon on Thursday, June 6.

We will rendezvous with all media organizations at the Energy Project facility, located on the Miramar Landfill, at 10:00 a.m.

See attached map for directions. There will be availability for interviews and a tour after remarks.
