FY18010 - Padres Alumni to Play MCAS Miramar All-Stars

The MCAS Miramar All-Stars are scheduled to compete in a softball game against San Diego Padres Alumni, May 10 at 12:45 p.m.

Members of the 1998 National League Championship team participating in the game include Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman, Wally Joyner, Scott Sanders, Jim Leyritz, Dan Miceli, Mark Sweeney, Carlos Reyes, Archi Cianfrocco, Carlos Hernandez and Steve Finley. Other notable Padres Alumni participants include Heath Bell, Mark Loretta, Tony Gwynn Jr. and Brett Tomko. Padres public address announcer Alex Miniak will also be on-hand to provide live playby-play commentary of the game.

"We look forward to the opportunity to host the San Diego Padres for what will surely be an exciting ball game and memorable experience for the Marines and Sailors on MCAS Miramar," said Col. Jason G. Woodworth, commanding officer of MCAS Miramar.

“As the team of the military, we take great pride in partnering with Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to be able to bring this event to life,” said Padres Sr. Vice President of Community & Military Affairs Tom Seidler. “Our alumni look forward to a spirited competition and, more importantly, an opportunity to thank these men and women for their service.”

Rules for the six-inning game will include the use of a designated hitter, a pitch ceiling of 10 feet and a five-run maximum per inning. The MCAS Miramar All-Stars will be managed by Sergeant Major Peter Siaw, sergeant major of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Command Master Chief Donald Davis, command master chief of 3rd MAW, and Sergeant Major Michael Walton, sergeant major of MCAS Miramar. Marines and their families in attendance will be treated to food, kids activities, giveaways, live entertainment and a meet and greet with current Padres players, as well as members of the Padres Alumni team. The event is closed to the public.
