MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. -- The Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum is scheduled to open a World War II Navajo Code Talkers Exhibit on Aug. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
The event will begin with a ceremony celebrating the legacy of the Navajo Code Talkers at Miramar, to include remarks made by MCAS Miramar Commanding Officer, Colonel Jason Woodworth, and Michael Tsosie and Michael Tsosie, Jr., son and grandson respectively, of Navajo Code Talker Samuel Tsosie, Sr.
The exhibit celebrates 75 years of the Navajo Code Talkers and their valuable contributions to the Marine Corps’ war effort during World War II, and features artifacts on loan to the museum that belonged to Samuel Tsosie, Sr.
The legacy of the Navajo Code Talkers is closely linked to the history of MCAS Miramar. The Code Talker program was originally demonstrated and tested at East Miramar, formerly known as Camp Elliott, and the Navajo Code Talkers trained there during World War II.
For media interested in attending the event, please send RSVPs to miramarmedia@usmc.mil by 12 p.m., Aug. 25.
