Artist Richard DeRosset, a La Jolla, California, native and a Navy veteran, painted a mural for the Airmen and Marine Memorial Chapel aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, April 28 to May 10.

DeRosset painted the mural to frame the War on Terrorism Memorial at the chapel and depicts 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing aircraft in a desert setting.

“People ask me why I painted my name so small, and I said ‘The only names that matter are the names on the granite monument,’ ” said DeRosset.

DeRosset began painting in 1981 and has worked on over 900 pieces, including the mural at the chapel.
