Major Daniel J. Schreiner

Major Schreiner enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in 2003 and graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Training in October of that year. After completing Artillery School in December 2003, he enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Corps while attending the University of Colorado. In 2008, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Physiology and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. After completing The Basic School in Quantico, VA in 2009, he reported for flight training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida. He was designated a Naval Aviator on 15 July, 2011 and after completing Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) School in Kittery, Maine, he reported to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Camp Pendleton, CA for instruction as an AH-1W Super Cobra pilot at Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMLAT-303).  

In May 2012, he reported to the “Gunfighters” of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 (HMLA-369) and in November 2013 was deployed to Helmand Province in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) 13.2-14.1. He held the billets of Legal Officer, Flight Equipment Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and Tool Room OIC during this period.  

After returning from OEF, Major Schreiner reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) and Battalion Air Officer. In October 2015, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan with Battalion Landing Team 1/5 and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and supported multiple exercises, including Cobra Gold and Ssang Yong.  

In June 2016, Major Schreiner again reported to HMLA-369 where he served as the Flightline OIC. In March 2017, he reported to Marine Aircraft Group 39 (MAG-39) Headquarters Squadron where he served as the Executive Officer. 

In September 2017, he again reported to HMLAT-303, where he served as an instructor pilot, training future Light Attack pilots in the AH-1Z Super Cobra helicopter. While at HMLAT-303, he also served as the S-4 OIC and Assistant Operations Officer and completed his Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.  

In June 2020, Major Schreiner reported to Commander, 7th Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan for duties as the Deputy Fleet Marine Officer and Phase 0 Planner in the N-5 section.  

In July 2023, Major Schreiner reported to H&HS Miramar, where he currently serves as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer (acting).  

Major Schreiner’s personal decorations include the Air Medal with Strike/Flight numeral “3”, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
