Lieutenant Colonel James K. Everett

LtCol Everett is a native of San Francisco, CA and earned a Bachelor of Science in English from the United States Naval Academy in 2007. He commissioned as a 2ndLt and completed initial training at The Basic School in Quantico, VA in 2008. He was then assigned to flight school in Pensacola, FL, where he was winged in October 2009 and promoted to First Lieutenant.

After completing initial training in the CH-53E, LtCol Everett was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 466 at MCAS Miramar, CA. LtCol Everett spent three years in HMH-466, serving in the capacities of adjutant/legal officer, schedule writer, and NATOPS officer. He was promoted to Captain in 2011 and he deployed with HMH-466, to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012. In March 2013, LtCol Everett graduated from Tactical Air Control Party School and in July 2013, he joined 1st Tank Battalion in Twentynine Palms, CA where he served as a Forward Air Controller and Air Officer until July 2014. In August 2014, LtCol Everett returned to HMH-466 and served as Logistics Department Officer in Charge and Quality Assurance Officer and completed Expeditionary Warfare School. In 2015, LtCol Everett deployed with HMH-466 on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.

From August 2016 to July 2018, LtCol Everett served at HMHT-302 at MCAS New River, NC. At HMHT-302, LtCol Everett served as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot, Airframes/Corrosion Control OIC, Assistant Operations Officer, Operations Officer, and CH-53K Transition Plans Officer. In 2017 he was promoted to Major.

In June 2018, LtCol Everett reported to MAWTS-1 in Yuma, AZ as a CH-53E Instructor Pilot. In June 2019, LtCol Everett assumed the role of CH-53 Division Head and in June 2020 he became the Assault Support Department Head and graduated from the Command and Staff College Distance Education Program.

In June 2021, LtCol Everett moved back to Miramar, CA and HMH-466 where he assumed the role of Operations Officer. In November 2021, he deployed on the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.

In December 2021, LtCol Everett was selected to his current rank and in June 2022 he returned to Okinawa to join Marine Aircraft Group 36 as the Operations Officer. In March 2023, LtCol Everett attended initial training for the UC-35D and was qualified in model in September 2023 flying with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron Futenma.

LtCol Everett’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Air Medal with gold numeral “1”, gold letter “V”, and bronze numeral “4”, as well as the Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars.
