A Third Marine Aircraft Wing AV-8B Harrier stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma crashed in an unpopulated area south of Phoenix, Ariz. at approximately 2:30 p.m. today. 

The pilot ejected safely and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the crash.
