Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif. -- Marines with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron participated in a squadron hike aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., April 18.
Marines received classes and fired various weapons at Carlos Hathcock Range after covering two miles of a five mile hike.
“We wanted to get everybody together and get some quality [physical training] in,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Levasseur, HHS commanding officer. “We also wanted to get some shooting in, along with some [professional military education] before transitioning into a weekend.”
The Marines received classes on sexual assault prevention and response, “The Reawakening,” hazing, safety and firing the M16A4 rifle and M4 shotgun.
“It’s great training and unit cohesion and camaraderie,” said Sgt. Emmanuel Ambrosio, a flight equipment technician with Marine Transport Squadron. “I believe all my Marines enjoy it.”
The hike was an old tradition with a new twist incorporating valuable information that Marines need to hear.
“It’s an opportunity for us to recharge and reawaken the soul of our organization to make sure that we are tracking and doing the right things for success long term,” said Lt. Col. Levasseur.
Once the Marines completed each station they formed up and hiked three miles back concluding the squadron hike.
