Brig. Gen. Robert Cardenas laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. (March 23, 2022) – The Miramar National Cemetery will host the procession and funeral ceremony for Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert Cardenas on March 31, 2022. Media partners are invited to attend the funeral ceremony.
Born in Merida, MX, but raised in San Diego, Cardenas was 102 when he passed. He
is most known for his aid in pioneering jet aircraft development, test flying the P-59 and XB-45, the Air Force's first jet fighter and bomber. Cardenas flew the B-29 launch aircraft that released the X-1 experimental rocket plane in which Charles E. Yeager became the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound.
Interviews with friends and family of Gen. Cardenas will not be made available based on the wishes of the family.
A full schedule of events and instructions to come aboard the cemetery will be provided to media outlets who R.S.V.P. in a separate correspondence. Live broadcast of segments is possible with prior coordination with the MCAS Miramar Office of Communication. Please note that vehicles will not be allowed the near the burial site.
