Sergeant Major Young is a native of Memphis, TN. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended Recruit Training on July 13, 1998,
at MCRD San Diego, CA. Upon completion of recruit training, he attended the School of Infantry for Marine Combat Training where
he was promoted meritoriously to Private First Class. Sergeant Major Young was then transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, MO to train as
a 3531 Motor Transport Operator.
Sergeant Major Young has served in every Marine Expeditionary Force on multiple occasions and has served in every element of the Marine Expeditionary Force. He has also served on numerous occasions with Marine Corps Recruiting Command and Marine Forces Reserve.
From December of 1998 to December of 1999 Sergeant Major Young was assigned to Truck Company, 3d TSB, 3d FSSG, III MEF where he served as a medium section operator and a dispatcher.
From January of 2000 to November of 2004 Sergeant Major Young was assigned to 8th Comm Bn, 2d MHG, II MEF where he served in
Service Company and Headquarters Company as a MT dispatcher, Battalion Primary Marksmanship Instructor, and Battalion MCMAP
Instructor. After making a lateral move to the 0651/0626 Date Network Specialist/Fleet Satellite MOS Sergeant Major Young returned to 8th Comm Bn, 2d MHG, II MEF where he served in Support Company as a Fleet and Ground Mobile Forces Satellite Team Leader, the Satellite Platoon Sergeant and the Support Company Training Noncommissioned Officer.
In January of 2005 Sergeant Major Young reported to Basic Recruiters School and upon graduation he reported to RS Pittsburgh, 1st MCD, ERR where he served from March of 2005 to March of 2008 as a Canvassing Recruiter, and Recruiting Substation Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge.
From March of 2008 to January 2011, Sergeant Major Young reported to MWCS 28, 2d MAW, II MEF, here he would serve in
multiple billets to include Radio Platoon Sergeant, Satellite Platoon Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Headquarters and
Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, Alpha Company First Sergeant, TAV-B Communications Chief and Squadron Administration
Chief. In December of 2008 he deployed with Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28 as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for
DET A to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed Sergeant Major Young was extended in order to serve as the
Sal Sinjar Detachment Communications Chief.
From January of 2011 to May of 2013 Sergeant Major Young was assigned to 2d Battalion 23d Marines, 4th Marine Division, during his time with 2/23 Sergeant Major Young served as the Battalion Communications Chief, Battalion S6 Officer, Battalion EKMS Manager, Greater Los Angeles Toys for Tots coordinator and the Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant.
From May of 2013 to November of 2015 Sergeant Major Young was assigned to Bridge Co C, 6th ESB, 4th MLG to serve as the I-I First
Sergeant. In January of 2015 Sergeant Major Young assumed responsibility of the support staff and was appointed as the Inspector Instructor.
From November of 2015 to December of 2017 Sergeant Major Young was assigned to 5th Battalion 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I
MEF. While here Sergeant Major Young served as the Battery S First Sergeant and the Battalion Sergeant Major additionally, from October of 2016 to May of 2017 he deployed with Battery S to the Pacific Area of Operations as part of the Forward Deployed Forces program.
In November of 2017 Sergeant Major Young was selected to his current rank and from January of 2018 to February 2020, he was assigned to RS San Diego, 12th MCD, WRR as the RS Sergeant Major.
In February of 2020 he departed Recruiting Station San Diego and reported to MWSS 372, MAG 39, 3d MAW, I MEF to serve as the
Squadron Sergeant Major.
In May of 2021 he detached from MWSS 372 and reported to 9th Marine Corps District, Western Recruiting Region to serve as the District Sergeant Major.
In December of 2022 he successfully completed his third tour in Marine Corps Recruiting Command and reported to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to serve in his current position as the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Station Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Young's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
