The Miramar Airshow Salutes ‘100 Years of Women in the Marine Corps’
13 Sep 2018
The commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Col. Charles Dockery, and the commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Maj. Gen. Kevin Iiams, invite the San Diego community to the 2018 MCAS Miramar Air Show, Sept. 28-30.   The theme of this year’s air show celebrates “100 Years of Women in the Marine Corps.”

This year, the station takes the opportunity to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of our female warriors with our theme of “100 Years of Women in the Marine Corps”.  From the first female enlistment in August 1918 to the graduation of the first female infantry platoon commander in September 2017, women have served with honor and distinction breaking barriers and setting new standards along the way. Comprising approximately 8 percent of today’s Corps, women serve at every rank from private to lieutenant general, in all occupational fields, at home and in combat operations abroad.

New to this year’s line-up is a U-2 ‘Dragonlady’ spy plane in flight, the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, and a host of new civilian acrobatic performers. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy exciting aerial performances by many of our Marine Corps aircraft to include the F-35B Lightning II, the AV-8B Harrier, and the MV-22 Osprey and the Marine AirGround Task Force demonstration team and lots more in the air and on the ground.

All attendees are also invited to join us at one of the many exhibits and panels celebrating our theme from historical societies and groups like the Women Marine Association, Women’s’ Museum of California, The USMC Historical Company, and the AWRS-7 Lady Marines who portray a World-War II US Marine Corps Women's Reserve Squadron based in El Toro, CA.

The air show is free to the public; however, upgraded seating options are currently on sale. For tickets and up-to-date air show information, please visit the Miramar Air Show website or call  1-877-772-5425 for assistance.
