MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. -- MCAS Miramar is scheduled to break ground on a new microgrid project at 2 p.m, Sept. 28.
MCAS Miramar and Naval Facilities Engineering Command have awarded an installation microgrid project to Schneider Electric and Black and Veatch as a joint venture. The project will utilize renewable energy to provide redundant power in the event of a local grid failure. Once fully operational, the microgrid will provide energy resiliency to the air station and allow operations at mission-critical facilities to continue if the utility power grid is compromised or damaged. The event will include a groundbreaking ceremony and remarks made by MCAS Miramar Commanding Officer, Colonel Jason Woodworth.
