Marines aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, participated in a base-wide cleanup, Nov. 16.

Marines from 28 units with both the air station and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing spent the day collecting litter, mowing overgrown areas and pulling weeds on and around the base.

“We conducted our second base-wide cleanup of the year, resulting in about 80 cubic yards of green waste collected aboard the installation and the surrounding areas,” said Master Sgt. Christopher Rosenfelt, a logistics chief with Headquarter and Headquarters Squadron and a Philadelphia native.

Marines were assisted by medical teams, the Provost Marshal’s Office and the Station Environmental Management Department to accomplish the mission of cleaning up MCAS Miramar.

“It’s important for the result, which is collecting the trash so it doesn’t build up and portray a negative sight around Miramar,” said Rosenfelt. “It really shows the local community we’re involved in cleaning our base and our area of responsibility.”

Marines extended their cleaning efforts to each base entrance and parts of Kearny Villa Road, Miramar Road and Miramar Way.

“All the Marines that came out to support the event showed a lot of initiative to take care of the areas of responsibility,” said Rosenfelt. “They did outstanding cleaning up the base.”
