The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons’ football team defeated the 3rd Amphibian Assault Battalion Gators in their first playoff game, 30-0, at Paige Fieldhouse aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Oct. 21.

The Falcons struck early in the first quarter with a 50-yard run by Patrick Williams, Falcons’ fullback, making the score 6-0.

The Falcons’ defense would hold strong and did not allow the Gators the opportunity to get back into the game, helping the offense find its rhythm.

“I’m very pleased with the team’s performance; we were lethargic during the first half but we fixed some things at halftime,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Carlice Moffett, Falcons’ head coach. “After that we came out and played Falcon football.”

The Falcons received the ball at the start of the second half and forced their way down to the 6-yard line. They would hand the ball off to Stephen Scott, Falcons’ fullback, for the touchdown. Miramar would convert the two-point conversion making the score 14-0.

The Falcons’ momentum continued after Elvis Liburd, Falcons’ defensive back, intercepted a pass around midfield to give Miramar decent field position. The Falcons would continue to dominate adding an additional 16 points to the scoreboard, shutting down the Gators. The Falcons walked off the field as time expired, content with the 30-0 victory.

“Tonight was a good effort by the whole team but we still have some things to work on to get better for next week’s game,” said Williams.

The Falcons will continue their playoff run next week and will face the winner between the School of Infantry Outlaws and Headquarters Support Battalion Spartans.
